2040 thickness 400mm My guess is either that the factory coatings were poor, or people used them to plane finishes, or wood with a lot of pitch, then perhaps used solvents to try to clean them. To my knowledge all new planers wider than 12" now come with steel rollers which unfortunately leave many marks on the finished wood unlike the Makita 2040 . I plan on having them refurbished. Western roller from Bend Oregon seems to be a top choice. What is the company in Oregon that resurfaced your rollers? Anyone know of someone who sells USED parts for these? And I certainly didnt want to buy the dust hood that they made for this I couldnt afford it. This way, it would be easier to slip over the old roller arbor, and I could easily dab in some super glue to hold it all together. I do a lot of rough wood, mainly walnut (I do gunstocks) and so an industrial machine is appealing. Youre looking at twenty five years of grease and sawdust on that chain. Some of the other companies probably have subsidized them to not sell them here LOL ! But not sure if I'd want to start with a unit missing so much.

My 24 Bridgewood planer seems to be the planer of choice, so this smaller one tends to get ignored. This old Makita 2040 planer is my pride and joy. Good luck with it. If the rod is there, then the gears and such should also be there.
